Just upgraded to Acccess 2007 and have ownership problem extracting queries from a 2002 db.

When trying to import into a new 2007 or export from the 2002, get "you have no permission" message

Have created a new user tried to change owner of the db, but no permission
File security looks correct in that I am owner of the file with full permissions, but Access doesn't recognize me as the owner

Tried logging in as admin, but it isn't the owner either

This is not critical, just very time consuming, this is a test project, but it would be nice not to have to rewrite about 30-40 queries and equivalent forms

Any guidence appreciated

David - this is just a wacky thought, so forgive me if it seems off, but do you have the 2002 db in an Access 2007 trusted location?

Does that mean that it WAS in the trusted location, or that it wasn't in the trusted location but should have been? Since I'm right so few times :D I'd like to find out for what I was right about :)

It means, as it appears always, you are right - it is a 2002 db in a 2007 trusted location

Do you still have access (no pun intended) to Access 2002?

Yes, that was going to be my next approach - relinking to standard workgroup and try again
Will keep you posted
Thanks

That piques my curiousity. Are you trying to import to an ACCDB or MDB file for 2007?

If ACCDB then it won't work because user level security is not available within an ACCDB file.

Correct, I am trying to load into accdb. With this dataabse I was testing security settings and workgroups in 2002 format. Other databases also in 2002 allowed me to convert to 2007, but this one won't let me convert, export or even copy data

Yes, you cannot convert to an ACCDB file if the mdb file has user level security. You can, however, continue to use the MDB format with ULS in Access 2007, but you have to use the MDB format and not the ACCDB format.

Final conclusion - relinked problem 2002 db to system workgroup, spent time to give admin permission & ownersip of all objects and hey presto, I can gain access and import into 2007 db

Thanks David for posting back with the solution. I'm glad you finally were able to get it taken care of. :)
