3 columns in a field in Detail? (1 Viewer)

Hello
"Detail" section in my report contains 1 field. It results in a list of names. I would like this list of names to show up in 3 columns.
That is, there are the header and the footer of the report, and in the middle, there is the "Detail", which is a long list of names, and it would be nicer if the list is in 3 columns rather than 1 long column.
Is it possible?

Have you looked at the Columns tab in Page Setup?

Yes, I filled in '3' at page setup, but with no effect on the report.

You have to set detail width to show 3 column

I tried all widths, from widest to third of the page width, and none work.
I also get an error msg. And the report does not display the whole list of names. (It does when no of columns is 1.)
