I would like to create a filter button.

I want it to click the button and [active_closed] filter the blanks.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for. Need more info.

The general format would be like:

Dim strFilter as string

strFilter = "[active_closed]  is null "

Me.Filter = strFilter
Me.FilterOn = True

If you wanted to give a visual for the state of the filter you could do something like:

Private Sub cmdFilter_Click()

    Dim strFilter As String

    strFilter = "[active_closed]  is null "

    Me.Filter = strFilter

    If Me.FilterOn Then
        Me.FilterOn = False
        Me.cmdFilter.Caption = "Filter is OFF"
    Else
        Me.FilterOn = True
        Me.cmdFilter.Caption = "Filter is ON"
    End If
