how do i learn vb.net and sql server . help??

hi to all,

can anyone tell me which site do i go or which is the easier way (faster) to learn sql and vb.net. How much time would i require (an average). If any one can furnish the information it wuld be quite helpful. I have vb studio 2005 installed. I finished a project in MS- ACCESS and thinking it might need to convert to sql in future as my company might require it. so i am interesetd to earn ASAP.

Buy and read a book, read some online tutorials; think of a simple project then code for it; think of a better way to design and implement the project and redo it; repeat this process over and over and over. Then one day you will be addicted to cafienated drinks (maybe alcoholic ones) and take out and junk food while spending inordinate amounts of time in a small room or cubicle with a monitor talking to yourself and Voila! You have learned!

Thanks buddy, But i have already passed through that phase of taking drinks. Now i am trying to get to talk to monitor. Thanks for the advise. But if u can suggest me any online tutorialsite which is worth a visit it willl be greatly beneficial. As u see we are already talking to monitors.

Well, I must appologize for my more than somewhat fippant attempt at a humorous response (although one of reality for the mostpart). I too am only just embarking on .NET/Visual Studio learning after many years with VB(x).

I think if you back out to this site's home page, you will find some excellent material to peruse. http://www.xtremevbtalk.com/index.php, or even the index page of this forum has some excellent stuff http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/index.php. As far as books are concerned, I have heard it said: "the making of books there is no end." My suggestion is go to your favorite bookstore and spend an hour or two. If it is a Borders or Barnes & Noble, line up a couple three and buy one; take it home and go through it a couple days; if you don't like it, take it back and exchange it for another. Eventually you will get one you like.

May not be a clear cut answer but it's how I do things and it works for me. Usually, downloading freely available code from sites like this then studying it teaches me more than any old book. But seriously, pick a simple project and stumble your way through it a few times or improve upon an open source (simple) one.

I have a brother who is a developer in California who tells me he is only one manual ahead of his competition; which tells me you never really learn it ...

you know what i found an excellent site www.learnvisualstudio.net and it contains videos which we can download and learn by seeing it. It is aimed for all. check that out and i am already doing it. it is awesome.
