I totally agree. I'm not here to attack anyone personally, it's not in my nature.

I was positive the BBC news said the FBI "groomed" this chap for months then gave him a fake bomb. I do admit though that I can't find any reference to that so I must be mistaken.

Once again I apologise for any misleading statement I may have made.

The name "Portland Oregon" did make me listen though - can't think why, I've never been there but they have a nice xmas tree by the look of it.

What's all this we've had spread all over our news here in the US?

Denmark's intelligence service, PET pick on an innocent Muslim blokes, brainwash them and train them to kill. Then set him up as "militant Islamists" with "connections to international terror networks" who had sought to penetrate the offices of Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen and "kill as many as possible."

They reckon he won't get off on an entrapment plea because he's Muslim (no others have over the last 10 years), so he'll do a long stretch because Denmark's intelligence service, PET say he's a terrorist. Yet prior to meeting up with them they had no inclination in that direction.

Arn't the Dane’s just great?

No sources were sited you just have to take my word on this. :p

Here is a link to recent arrests in Denmark. No mention of any entrapment you will notice. Don't think we'll be taking your word for this

An interesting article which makes a good point. However this alienation of muslims is not confined to the US. Many countries in Europe also seem intent on radicalising muslim youth.

I am also a bit cynical about the claims to have prevented an outrage with no real evidence being produced. It does raise the suspicion that in these time of government spending cuts the security forces are looking for ways to justify having their budgets increased.
 
I think the truth is that we really have no idea what the FBI, CIA, MI5 or MI6 actually get up to.

We all see various stories and hear rumours, but us normal Joe Bloggs have no real idea.

I think it's worth noting that the term "grooming" has stemmed from his defense attorney.

For me there is a difference between

1) Pre-existing intent and providing the means to carry out that intent to make a case

and

2) Being coaxed into committing a crime without any original intent.

It seems the former was clearly the case here and as such entrapment doesn't apply. The defense will have to come up with something that illustrates he had no previous intent and some kind of sign of resistance against this "grooming" procedure. I haven't seen either of those yet.
 
I wonder if there is anyone from Portland Oregon on these boards that may have some idea whether this story is true / partially true / or just another American sham.

I live just north of Portland (in Tacoma, WA) and there has been much talk of it here. From what I gather, it is not "just another American sham" (whatever that may be), but appears to be very true, unfortunately. There have been several people who have come forward saying that the young man contacted them, looking for a way to join up with a "jihad", and talking of finding a way to inflict massive damage on the populace.

Firstly, I didn't "make up" a lie. I have provided a link as a reference.

However, doubt has been cast on parts of the original post, so, I thought that perhaps someone nearer to the area may have further info on this topic.

Surely the point is not whether the chap "wanted" to do it - it is the fact that the FBI trained him and set it all up. I thought the FBI were there to protect.

But it sounds to me like he was looking to do exactly what he is accused of based on any news articles from dependable resources. Have any articles from a more respected news source? BBC?

As has been pointed out, people have come forward, who are Muslim, that have nothing to do with the FBI claiming he contacted them to find out how to be a Jihad. They were innocent Muslims of course who tipped the FBI off on this guy. He was looking to become a terrorist, isn't it better he is stopped before he actually does it?

Well it is very eloquent. Sadly no references to back it up though, so based on other peoples ideas (not mine) - no references must mean it's a lie.
