Hi guys

Anyone had any experience of working through the US visa's to allow working in America?

I've been working on behalf of Beats by Dre for a while now in production. During my 8 weeks or in New York, I've had 3 job offers. The stumbling block is getting the right visa. In my line of work, there are no bachelors degree, just good old fashioned real time experience thus, ruling out a H-1B. I have 23 yrs of practical production experience though with 10 yrs in upper management.

Anyone have any pointers on how to work it right so it doesn't take forever to get into the states?

First, I am no expert in this field. In USA, to get a job you will have to fill out a job application given by the employer. Usually, it will ask about your Social Security number, Citizenship/Visa status. If the employer is willing to offer you a job, you can inform the employer of your current visa status. Usually, the employer will do the paper work for the work permit/immigration.
If you want to get a work visa on your own, your best option may be to consult an immigration attorney. The consulting fee may be a few hundred dollars.

If someone is tabling a serious offer of employment they would have their staff checking into making arrangements for work permits. Depending how "upper" you mean by "upper management", I would make it part of the discussion.

If you are talking about a degree in databases then the BSc is called Business Information Systems, includes database administration, business analyst, systems analyst, project management or indeed the one that I done which is Network computing which is split across Networks (about 75% of course)/databases (25%)

Of course, most actual degrees don't mean much in the technology field. Certifications and licenses mean so much more since you usually have to keep them updated. Someone who earned a BS in BIS 20 years ago doesn't necessarily know anything about the field today. Technology evolves, and so must schooling.

I would say that having a degree means you are more than capable of understanding the basic concepts and are able to learn at a higher level.
I agree though that education in certain fields needs to be continual and its the one thing I realised very quickly ie after graduation I soon realised my learning in IT/IS was only beginning!
