Hi

My database exports data to one of our customers who then inputs the data into their system.
One field i have is "RO Number" which i have as an autonumber which works for the purposes of my part of the system.

However they have it set as "RO9999", (Their system has been set up for years, we are a new "branch") but they aren't in access so cant help me!

They want the RO number to be a running serial from RO30000, RO30001 etc

any ideas how to create this as i'm stuck!

the data in entered on a form.

Many Thanks
Kat :)

Hi,
As far as I know, Access table doesn't support having a string in auto-increment field, nor starting it from a seed other than Zero (or 1).

What I would do is expose to the external system a query on the table: the table will have a regular auto-increment field (call it 'my_RO'), the exposed 'RO' field will have the value returnd by the function:
RO Number: "RO" & Cstr(my_RO)

PS: I would advise you to NOT to leave a space in your field names.

All the best!

You could use your Primary Key and a Custom Format. Example:
SomeField="RO" & "-" & [PrimaryKey]
