Song Lyrics

My old "bleeding edge" PC (one of the first i7 versions available) is now so out of date and slow that I haven't powered it up for over a month... My Techno Skills are slowly waning with a combination of "can't be arsed" and "I've had enough"

I think it just pales in comparison with your shiny work PC with 128TB RAM or whatever it was!

128 TB RAM? I can only think of a couple of reasons for such machines. One would be a really complex, detailed map of the world. The other would be because you wanted to build a virtual RAM drive. Oh, if it is a multi-CPU server, then Virtual Machine hosting would also make sense.

I am having fun - not...

I got a new PC, so I wouldn't have to build it and faff about.

I'm using it as the default "user" and a HP message box pops up and says this is "HP Sure Start" would you like to enter a password or words to that effect.

Me thinking it had identified I didn't have a password for my windows name, thought oh that's clever!

No - it's not, it's nothing to do with Windows, it locks the bloody BIOS!

Anyway something went wrong, I have no idea what, and it took me through to a recovery window.

I was in two minds whether to ring the supplier but in the end thought well I might as well run the recovery and reinstall the software Windows 10 Pro...

Did that, major crash and message saying that it couldn't install Windows 10 it could only install Windows 8 ..

This is after it wiped the hard drive!

This is the HP software that comes with the HP computer!

I've been speaking to HP and I am now downloading recovery software onto a USB stick.

And the USB stick, it says it's 16 GB, they say the software needs a 16 gigabyte USB stick, and guess what when I open when I look at the USB stick it says it's actually got 14 gig not 16!

so I elected to just install the software and not the drivers.

No idea if that will work, but he still ..

I might be back online sometime tomorrow afternoon if I'm lucky!

I *thought* the whole idea of buying a computer was to avoid problems like this.?

I used to make a lot of mistakes, but I didn't become REALLY efficient at it until I bought a computer.

"Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard… "

Sounds like my home network woes :o

:D

Good one Minty and after reading your post earlier, it give it new meaning!

Exactly! Still not going, but I'm learning a lot about the PC!

I will say HP help are fantastic, patient and knowledgeable...

BTW.. it's looking like a faulty SSD, will know more tomorrow, the guy helping me, Wilson, had to go home.

You know AB, when I made this post I was certain you would provide an epic lyric. Don’t disappoint me now...

There are a few technology based songs, worth mentioning.

You're wondering who I am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in Japan, I am the modren man

I've got a secret I've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive

I'm not a robot without emotions-I'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, I'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control

I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo...domo

Ah yes, Styx. I bought this LP in 1983. It was a during a time when bands would actually tell a story with the entire LP and each song would either pick up where the previous one left off or expound on the story itself. Good stuff...

FWIW, every time I had to interact with HP service, they knew what they were about. And with OpenVMS being an HP O/S, running on HP Itanium (IA64) servers, I talked to them on a frequent basis. Not that many machine problems, but a LOT of networking setup issues. The problem was that OpenVMS networks almost perfectly followed the TCP/IP standards but not everyone else did. It was, shall we say, interesting?

I love those conceptual albums. One of the reasons I really appreciate King Diamond for his horror stories.

Of course, we can't forget Pink Floyd.
