IPOD or MP3 ????????

For mine, at least, as good and most of the time better.

Is the quality as good as say a cassette?

MP3 quality is much better than that of a cassette. It's crisper and cleaner, unless you are fond of the reassuring hiss. I tried my iPod 80Gb in my pal's car a couple of weeks ago and it was great having thousands of songs at my disposal, just like that.

I installed an OEM spec CD-RW mp3 drive in my truck. It parses the directory structure of the CD-RW and addresses the songs in groups of 36 per "disc". I spend around 7 1/2 hrs a week in the truck while commuting and one disc contains enough music to last several weeks before I need to change the lineup. I liked the idea better than FM transmitters or wires. Clean, in-dash, and uses the factory controls on the radio.

Well ok, I've ordered a cheapy MP3 and transmitter, if it fails to please I'll blame you lot:p

Only problem with the FM transmitter, that i have run into, is sometimes someone can steal your frequency, since the FM transmitters HAVE to accept interference and cannont cause it, and then you are in trouble. you end up listening to their stuff. its pretty lame.

I doubt if there are that many advanced listeners in the part of the world that I live in:eek: :D

Well even driving by places like firestations sometimes causes it... i dont know its weird. maybe its just the trasmitter i have.

It's not your transmitter... After the comm problems experienced on Sep-11th, emergency services and police communications are given preference (read as, they are allowed to interfere) to prevent any interference with "essential" communications. Watch the signal from your cell phone bottom out near a firehouse or police station, as well.

Yea figured as much. I knew they had to accept interference.
what sucks though is if im driving on an interstate and someone else has one they hijack my signal! that, i believe, is a problem with my transmitter. its not very powerful apparently

Doesn't it have a secondary channel or frequency you can switch to?

yeah it has every channel on it. but its a pain to change the freq on the tansmitter and on the radio. if it were built in. thatd be a whole lot easier

LOL... try living here... our cell phone reception sux at the best of times but what is more annoying is that depending on where we are in our neighbourhood we could hook up with a local cell phone tower in Ontario Canada :) or one in almost equal distance in Quebec Canada :( or one in almost equal distance New York State USA ... talk about heavy roaming fees which we have to reverse EVERY SINGLE BILL WE GET:mad: ...

or you could re-sort the Networks list in your phone to avoid the US and Quebec towers...;)

...actually since I went into semi-retirement I really do not want to be available to the world 24/7 :p so avoiding the roaming charges is my quasi-excuse to not use the dang cell phone ;)

Sounds logical to me.

I am still undecided on what to do. I like the IPOD due to it simplicity. The MP3, is so dang small, its hard for me to select songs. You have to remember, that I am a 58 year old man here and my eyes and coordination is not the best. I think the more and more I look at it, I will be going to the IPOD, I hate now to rip all the music to a different format.

Rich, I think so, but I have seen kids text message, eat lunch and drive at the same time, so I guess its who you ask.

What do you mean different format?
