My Access 2003 databases are going wierd. My computer has 2 GB of user Memory, VIsta Business, and Access 2003. My databases were running fine on my XP System with 512MB of user memory. Error messages include "Out of Memory" and what I would say is random errors that I cannot find when I attempt to debug.

I understand that earlier versions of Access had problems with more than 1 GB of memory but that Microsoft fixed this problem with Jet 4.0. I even downloaded the lastest update.

My Access Databases are inoperant. !@#$%&&*(()))

(1) I know others have the same problem. If you are one of them, have you found any resolution?

(2) Do you know if Microsoft is aware that this problem still exists?

I'm totally dead in the water.

Thanks for your help. (I think it's a great time to retire and go skiing).

The first thing to look for is whether your swap file is overcommitted. (Well, FULLY committed.) You have to find the system performance monitor and see if the virtual memory commit/charge numbers indicate that you are pegged at the top of your current swap file. You have to use system tools to find the virtual memory manager to find the sub-tab that defines the size of your swap file. Then you use the performance monitor to see if you have committed all of the swap file. If so, try to expand the swap file.

Unfortunately, Vista is a known memory hog and I am not surprised to hear that it is not doing so well in memory issues.

Some questions are in order, though. When you were still under XP, did these problems EVER happen?

When under Vista, are you the machine's administrator? Goal here being to turn on the performance monitor graphs to see what pegs out. They are buried somewhere under the system tools path. Since I don't have Vista and MS changes the system tools layout every version, you'll have to search for it. Could be under either control panel >> system or accessories >> system tools.

In Vista, the Performance Monitor graphs are on the Task Manager on the Performance tab.
