subforms and combo boxes

I have a form where I have the user to select a grade of steel...a subform to display all the steel associated with that grade (combo box).

My problem is that when I open it, I see records in my subform. How can I get it to open up with no records showing?

Set DataEntry of the SubForm to YES and set it back to NO in the AfterUpdate event of the ComboBox. Or make the LinkMaster field of the SubFormControl an invisible unbound TextBox on your MainForm and fill in the TextBox in the AfterUpdate event of the ComboBox.

what do I type in for the dataentry part?

In the Current event of the MainForm put:
Me.[view records subform].Form.DataEntry = YES

And in the AfterUpdate event of the ComboBox put:
Me.[view records subform].Form.DataEntry = NO

In both cases you want to press the "..." button for that event and select "Code".
