I wanted to start this as a new thread, I am trying not to make this a double thread, though I have mention it in other issues.

I have an Access running off a network share with about 60 users. Until recently, no major problems, until now (upwards of every 5 seconds at times) get a message in the status bar "Updating tables. Press and hold ESC to stop...". Sometimes this message flickers so fast that it can barely be seen, and other times it will remain for 10 seconds and completely lock up Access. I looked around online. Found one but had to pay to get the answer.

I will say that I was splittng another DB when this all started.

I've seen this reported as an issue with A2007 SP2. Is that what you have?

Edit: Just seen your other post. It appears you have a problem with Access, not your application.

I am checking with our IT team to see if we have SP2. I do have A2007.

Thanks for the quick responce. I will post when I find out more information.

Any input would be appreciated

If you look at Help/About in your Access it will tell you which SP has been installed.

I can't help with a solution, I'm afraid.

Don't you think 60 users is too much for Access database? I've heard Access stays reliable when 10 users open 1 MDB, and goes not very well when number of users increase.

You can use SQL Server or terminal services, or do some database splitting/optimizations.

MaxD, you are right on the users. That is why I am splitting datbase. Now I will say not all users are accessing the datbase at one time of course. Thanks for the quick reply.

Just got off the phone with MS, there will be a HOTfix coming out in Aug 09.

Have any one else had problems with SP2?

This is not specific to having too many users or having SP2. I have a database in use only by me at the moment. I'm running A2007 on Vista SP1 and experience the same "Updating tables..." every few seconds. I've also had issues with Access being logy and freezing in Vista since Day One and have found no fixes that work. I've had Access freeze up (Not Responding) with no database open. Others use this tool on occasion and I support them, as I built it. It has no issues in XP so it has to be Vista and/or A2007. Is there a fix for this? I don't see any hotfix from AUG that addresses this. Thanks in advance for any tips. petz
