Please critique my proposed method of replication

Many thanks again, I appreciate the time you took to explain that thoroughly. I'm looking at the way windows terminal services work, I can see why you are recommending it for a low use app like mine. I still stand by what I say about Indirect replication being tricky to set up!

Please critique my proposed method of replication

Many thanks for your reply. Why is this? Is the direct sync more likely to cause data corruption over the slow connection? Direct synchronisation seems easy to implement. Indirect seems difficult, esp in Access 2003, without ReplMan. I've read this before and I don't quite understand the...

    Completing Module and marco

Waran, We'll need some more information on what exactly is causing you problems if anyone here is to help you. Beware copy/pasting, if you don't understand what you are copying, it will be difficult to see why things are going wrong.

Please critique my proposed method of replication

Hello there. I've been administering a split Access 2003 database for some time now. The Back end currently resides on a central network drive, with the front end being updated and pushed out to users via a batchfile. I now see the need to replicate the BE so that users on slow connections...

Duplicating record occurence in a query

Maybe! Looks like I'll have to live with that! I have actually gone ahead and implemented the solution I suggested in my OP, and am very happy with the way i's working. If a database professional ever takes over, I'll have to live with his wrath!

Duplicating record occurence in a query

Indeed. And having thought about it, I've realised that I have actually already done what you suggested wrt care instructions. The recommended compost, most suitable position, watering instructions, and best soil type are all held in individual external tables. However tblPlants is a table...

Duplicating record occurence in a query

Hmm. OK, this does indeed require some more thought then. I can't see my end users liking it!

Duplicating record occurence in a query

Although I can see where you're coming from, to have multiple entries in the catalogue for what is effectively the same plant with the same care details (eg the many different forms of clipped box) seems to be an unnecessary replication of data within the database. I'm not sure if your...

Duplicating record occurence in a query

Hi there, I feel like this could go in one of several fora here, but think that this one suits best! I have a database which is essentially a plant catalogue for a garden centre. One of the functions of the database is to print labels for pots with some detail about the plant, price, care...

How do I logon as a different user?

Sorry for late response to this thread, but thanks TLender, that did the trick.

How do I logon as a different user?

hmmm still not working... My target reads: X:\Path\to\db\db.mdb /user myuser

How do I logon as a different user?

I can open it directly yes, without a shortcut. The database is not secure, but I cannot change user levels whilst logged on as admin, because I have removed those privileges. How would I add the user switch to a shortcut I tried \user martin, but still was logged on as an admin.

How do I logon as a different user?

So this seems like a stupid question even to me, and yet here I am asking it... I've just spent some time beginning to secure my database. Using the User Groups and Accounts dialoge, I created a new account for myself, added it to the Admin group, added a few other user groups with varying...
