OK. (And thanks for the explanation about front and back end). What might be a better tool? I understand MySQL, but can't do PHP sufficiently to design a front end. I need a commercially available software package, like Access or FileMaker Pro, to do the job. What might be your suggestions?

Problem solved. The recipient has to click 'Reply' in before the fields become active. Doing this has solved my problem and I can now collect data automatically via email. Not often that I thank Mr Gates, but this one has a yay factor of at least eight.

yes, and they automatically complete the record for you. PROVIDING you can get the things to work. Which is my problem. Anyone offer any suggestions?
