You'll have to start from scratch anyhow. Difference between the recovery cd and windows install is the PC system properties which are installed. Or, just hit F11 or F8 ( depending on the PC) during booting to install directly from your back up sector.

Can't you make a system recovery CD. Just google for system back up.

For graphics ( CAD/CAM) etc and music rcording, the MAC is unbeatable.I've got an old 8600 which is still running great with Protools/Cubase and such, something I would not recommand for a PC. However, for office /email/internet I stick to my Dell PC. Just my 2cts

Instead of the msconfig you might use Autoruns.exe. This exe give you all programs and dll's etc which run on booting windows. http://www.filehippo.com/download_autoruns/ Hth
