I warned You! (1 Viewer)

In the middle of his talk, he said something that brought up a memory from the movie Galaxy Quest, where Gwen (Sigourney Weaver's character) had the job of computer/human interface. That's all she does. In the movie she gets to respond to someone who says, "But you are merely repeating to us the thing that the computer just told us." She replies "This is the job the scriptwriters gave me, it's all I know how to do. Let me do that job." In the context of the movie, it was humorous but in the speaker's discussion, that human/machine interaction is (going to be) a crucial skill.

Galaxy Quest is one of my all time favorite moves. It was a spoof on Star Trek which I also love. My husband, like most men, was very observant of certain things and pointed out that the position of the zipper on Gwen's costume moves as the action heats up.

He creeps me out by repeatedly referring to the impressive value of his own work. It reminds me of all the hucksters selling get rich scemes in real estate, pyramid sales and web site design.

He may be right about some things, but I don't need his constant self-aggrandizement to convince me.

In certain ways, he reminds me of Bill Gates, who started HIS little empire in a garage tinkering with the new toys called microcomputers. Ego wasn't lacking there, either.
