Umm, not totally sure I'm following, but: if the Autstralian is an English teacher in America, they should probably teach American-style english, as it would be the most useful, yeah..

Ideally, you just don't decide to teach a language in a country you're not suited for
If I'm teaching English in Mexico, I probably shouldn't be British, as that won't help the youngsters much. Anyway, I believe we've beat this horse beyond death.

I was confused by the title of this thread - to me, as to most Brits, an 'OIK' is 'uncouth or obnoxious person' (OED). Hence I assumed an oikophobe would be someone with a fear of oiks.

The word used by Mexicans for an automobile is "Coche".

That's exactly the type of erroneous information that gets promulgated when you try teaching the way I have recommended against.

Fact: Nobody in everyday Mexican life actually uses the word Coche for car. They say Carro.
