    Helpful Language Comparisons (maybe)

Maybe we are at cross purposes here Pat? I attach brief samples of code that maybe explains what I was saying. I had to do a screen shot, as using <CODE> didn't keep the alignments that I wanted to show.

    Helpful Language Comparisons (maybe)

The way I read it was that you agreed with the Python comments and maybe some others but then said that you suspected that the whole thing was inaccurate. Which I thought was a contradiction. You obviously disagree. So there we are, agreeing to disagree.:) I posted the opinions of Eric as I...

    Helpful Language Comparisons (maybe)

I take your point but do not agree with the above generalisation. But do you not contradict yourself from the Python reference? I am not a fan of case sensitive and always irritated with it when I slip in and out of Linux. Why should a filename, or folder be case sensitive? But I do like the...

Food for thought and maybe not for eating?

A column today in the Telegraph, PDF attached. In a similar vein, although no stats to support this but I wonder just how much of the surge in dementia, Alzheimer's etc is caused by alcohol and drugs. If someone has medication for depression to help them forget, they can hardly be surprised if...

Food for thought and maybe not for eating?

When I employed people, I used to think that maybe around 10% of them were really good. Ten percent were bad but often necessary hands and the first to go in a downturn. The rest were also-rans varying from good to mediocre.

Food for thought and maybe not for eating?

Maybe the older you are the less you should eat that stuff? Not the other way around. But why do we need to be mandated? Why must draconian rules be enforced against the population. We all know that drugs will cause serious damage and it is illegal to use them but stupid people still buy them...

    Bitcoin?

Can this be summarised simply by barter? It used to work all over the place, certainly in England in years gone by.

    Separator line in combobox.

I was looking for a solution for a separator line in a Combo but the Search wasn't working. So in the meantime I cobbled together a cheap and nasty solution of sorts and add it here in case it may be of interest. 1. Me!Combo109.RowSource = "' ';'Census';'Gazetteer';'Notes'" << normal Combo...

I did wonder that at first but it would be a long update, as I've tried it several times since about 7am.

That's reassuring, it means I haven't got an obscure error somewhere!

    Search Error

Not really sure where to post this and I'm just wondering if it is only me. Since early morning the Search it has failed. When I do a Search it comes up with the error : Oops! We ran into some problems A server error occurred. Please try again later. I've tried it even with a simple search...

    What's your best/worst joke?

On a summers day at the sell out cricket final between England and Australia there was a guy sat next to an empty seat. When asked about it, he said it was his wife's but she had passed. When asked why he didn't give the place to one of his mates, he said he couldn't because they were all at the...

Could You Survive a Carrington Event?

I wasn't referring to money at all. More as you say to shelter and warmth, which are pretty basic on Maslow's pyramid. No electric = no pumping petrol, no information beyond the people you see. And very rapidly no food, or water from your taps. Hoarding food in preparation would do little to...

    Helpful Language Comparisons (maybe)

I came across this the other day from another Forum. It is written by Eric Lendvai and I thought some may find it interesting? Eric clearly has little, if any experience of Access, as it isn't mentioned. But you will be able to add your own pros & cons on Access anyway. I have posted it...

    Reading Between the Lines

If you want to keep DOS alive there is V-DOS, a free application that runs in Windows and appears solid. I have run old MS-DOS software without error in it. Never looked at FreeDos, so cannot comment. But if you want Text based screens, Harbour is a decent (and free) solution. It also allows...

    What's your best/worst joke?

The next door neighbour thinks that his wife is starting to lose her memory. Apparently, the other day she told him that she couldn't remember a single reason why she was ever attracted to him.

    Uncles Favourite Podcasts & Videos

Dave Allen's shows were always worth watching. It's a pity that he refused to allow them to be repeated. So except for odd internet snippets, that's all that's left.

    Corrupt judge

Unbelievably this is what governments do. Until the 1980s Britain was still sending orphans and other poor, or difficult young children to Australia. I have not the slightest how they justified such an action. It was a terrible secret, hidden until many years later. It is only in the last...
