    MS Access vs other tecnologies

Yup, will be using that in my prototype. I plan to use Allen Brown's code so the search doesn't kick in until a few characters are entered, if that's what you mean.

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

I have some clients with 30K - 70K clients in their databases and not surprisingly, they would be really happy to have the application in turbo-mode. What I want to do it build a prototype and when I get that right, redevelop some forms in my real application to test it on some users and see if...

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

Good to know. I'm just trying to figure out why that is. It seems that documentation on this topic is a bit scant. At this point I'm pretty much ready to focus less on the why and start working on a prototype with the one-record search. I am wondering if someone has a working model with subforms.

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

Let's focus on doing searches based on an index field, as one would usually call up a client based on the primary key which is indexed. You said: That would imply that the ACE/JET BE is intelligent enough to pass back just the requested row. That is a real eye-opener to me and definitely...

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

I think you're right that reality is probably neither extreme. What matters is that when you request one record that less data is processed and is therefore faster than a table based on a query. I'm not sure if anyone really knows exactly how that works considering the conflicting information I...

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

Personally I used the good old Me.RecordsetClone.FindFirst "[ID] = " & Me![cboSearch] Me.Bookmark = Me.RecordsetClone.Bookmark Of course they won't be scrolling. :) In that case, the underlying table IS the recordset. Either way, I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks!

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

I'm talking about, for example, a customer table with tens of thousands of records and the user wants to navigate to a specific record. If I'm reading CJ_London correctly, if the form's recordsource is set to SELECT * FROM tblClients WHERE PK = 1234 then only record 1234 is transferred over the...

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

And once the records are loaded? Wouldn't navigating through a form that already has the records loaded be comparable or even faster than retrieving the specific record over the network every time the user navigates? I never realized this! I'm not following. If the form is initially opened...

    MS Access vs other tecnologies

I read through the links and I want to ask about one point you raise. I see the suggestion of not having forms bound to large tables, but rather only access the specific row needed. I have never implemented this method because I have a few questions. I'm hoping someone can help explain the...

Question What's a good email client alternative to Microsoft Outlook?

I've been using Thunderbird as my email program for about 10 years and I'm completely happy with it. However, your original question seemed to relate to the scheduling aspects, which I don't really use. That's why I didn't suggest ith when I saw the original post.

Memo field & Rich Text Format in Access 02 / 03

I use Leban's control and it works really well. You have to do some research because as he says, it's not that well documented. As well, you're going to have to convert existing data to RTF data but it's worth it, IMO! SHADOW

    Bold Text in Report

What version of Access are you using? In 2007 and later, you can use rich text. In earlier versions, it's doable but not that simple. I would probably just create multiple labels, format them the way I want it, and then place them next to each other. SHADOW

The description of the question is not quite clear. However, Jack Leach created this awesome demo that I was able to modify for my own needs and incorporate in my projects: http://www.utteraccess.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1973842 I used version 2. This should be able to steer you. SHADOW
