I have the time and patience to continue, should you wish to take it to a higher level. Just in case: if I understand the quote above, the person who understands the problem showed you an alternative to the sub-query I used in my attachment last week. The "TblCombinedQuery" in that attachment...

Have you tried creating a Query from the Assets and Contacts tables that produces just the matching records that have been checked out? Then run the report using the query as its source.

Hello again. It's been about 20 hours since your last post and I'm wondering if you've opened my attachment successfully. Did it give you enough that you can now work on your own, or are you still waiting for something further--if so, what?

    My Country, Your country

I think Australia has a very rich language, although I haven't been there. In Canada, we seem to have added only one word to the English we started with: "eh?" - which I think of as synonymous with "what?" and lately, "yeah?". I think, if I were younger, I'd like to visit Oz and listen to...

Fascination is a mouse staring at a snake readying to strike at that mouse. This thread has rapidly grown in posts because of this fascination. When I visited Fort Lauderdale in 1959, I did so by bus from Toronto, Canada; passing through northern New York. It was my first visit to USA and I...

You hadn't previously mentioned that it was the Hours you wanted averaged. If you've looked at the database attached to Post #20, you'll see that I thought it was Avg Cost you wanted...but I'm sure you can adapt it.:)

I've attached a sample database that might be useful. Good luck.

Yes, the query as a stand alone object does what you want the formula Avg to do, (ignore the zeros). The resulting data can then be summed and counted or averaged. Admittedly, the average is being performed separately in a query but you can display the result in a subreport or whatever your...

For isolated portions of a quote, I usually use the Reply with Quote first, then edit the text in the quote that appears, deleting what I don't want to use. I loved Fort Lauderdale, FLA on my visit in 1959. They were casting extras for the movie, Where the Boys Are...but I couldn't stay long...

So the thread really IS about crime after all. Fortunately, Canada has the least population of the three you named and the largest area. We could actually fit the UK into the province of Manitoba with enough space left over for the State of Maine. Not that we'd do so, we like having 50'x100'...

Forgive me, B.A.M., but since you are using SQL (and I'm not) your code bypasses what I would be doing with the GUI query approach. Someone familiar with SQL is needed. I gather this was not your designed database. Good luck.

Just stumbled into this thread, read a few pages, and despite its having difficulty staying on apparent topic, it has obvious followers. First, I should state an opinion, then I can get on with the real topic: You are more likely, statistically at least, to die of having smoked than by being...

As you are by now aware, the report you illustrated will have been designed either from a query or directly from the table. (The report's Source property will reveal which it is.) The report need not change, but its Source can be changed to a query that has all the fields from that table plus...

I sympathize with your difficulty but although the original response from an expert would likely be the best approach, my suggestion was based on your inexperience. If you would clarify your situation, I might get you a solution within your comfort zone. You obviously have a table with many...

    Lookup fields v lookup tables

BTW, Lookup as data type in Tables was in 2002 also. If I do decide to use it, when using that field in a report, I use Change to... to make it a Text Box. It is annoying in Datasheet view (of the table) because it displays the pull down box which wastes space.

Have you tried a simple query that has >0 as its criteria for that field and the other identifying group (if any) field? Save it, and use it as the source table for your AVG totalling query.

Validation Rule on a calculated field?

I learned a lot today, thanks to you and despite myself. Using the Form's Before Update meets the other half of the problem, but won't allow the macro button procedure to exist (because it includes a command to Close). So I have to choose between (A) Estopping the Close button from exiting the...

Validation Rule on a calculated field?

OK, Got it. Too many commas. DoCmd.OpenForm "FrmReceipts",acNormal,,,acFormAdd,acWindowNormal was the last line. It works now. Message displays if out of balance and when the message exits, the record remains. When corrected, the button closes and reopens a fresh form in Add Mode. The big...

Validation Rule on a calculated field?

I've been trying the Macro approach with the following code (which presently gives an error about an argument not being optional): If Me.OverUnder <> 0 Then MsgBox "Out of Balance" DoCmd.CancelEvent Else DoCmd.Close acForm, "FrmReceipts", acSaveYes DoCmd.OpenForm...

Validation Rule on a calculated field?

I'm sorry if I'm frustrating you, but I did try to figure out the code. I tried If Me.OverUnder <> 0 Then MsgBox "Out of Balance" DoCmd.CancelEvent End If This works to put up a message when out of balance, but needs something to proceed to next blank record (I'm in Add mode). I...
