    Question Auto generated number

Your correct this number will be going in the report number field. However this could be duplicated across many lines, ie when multiple serial numbers are on the same report. Also there could be many other variants in the report number field, such as "repair" or "Cut out" so it can't be...

Thanks for the quick response! Can I explain a little more in the hope of getting a more tailored answer? The form we use is shown here: The data is built from two tables, a customers table and a Job register and report log table. Don't ask me why it's named that way, I have no idea...

    #name? error on report totals.

That works. Strange though! VAT now reads =(Sum([Job Price]))*0.175 and Grand Total reads =((Sum([Job Price]))*0.175)+(Sum([Job Price])) And after closing and re opening access, it still works. Lovely!

    Automate a field

[Access 2007 automatically puts the = in I think. Anyhow, this is what i have in the default value field on the Job register form: =Right(Year("Date"),2) & "/" & Format(Nz(DMax("Right([Job No], 5)","[Job Register and Report Log]","Year([Date Rec]) = " & Year("Date")),0)+1,"00000") And I get...

No worries :-) I've copy / pasted that code in to the default value of Job No field in the form and i get #error in the Job No field... The Date Rec field is set to default value date() so it will always contain the date the job was booked in.
