i use them in VBA to count little recordsets or a cheeky dlookup..it's a lot less code i'd never use them in queries or on big queries/tables in VBA oh and i use them every now and again when i have an updatable form based on a complicated query and i can't link in any more tables as the query...

and as for why do people still use 97... my place has a hundred Access 97 databases, a lot linking into each other and all of them used all day... to replace them would be a lot of man-hours...some of them are key applications i can't wait until IT refuse to let Office 97 be on the PCs...

call a DAO.recordset and create the SQL on the fly and use MATCH/INDEX instead of VLOOKUP ;)

we have a lot of 97 at my work :( my initial thoughts:- if you have a db where you amend the live if it goes wrong whilst users are in it - you cannot in 2000+ you are forced to do things better, using a dev and a live version and almost ceratinly having a seperate back end if you have lots...

do it as a make table query then see what field types it comes up with in the temporary table you make...then compare them to the ones you are populating inhe update qry

no, which is very strange tried different everythings, i have no instance of it working. maybe it's a clash with 1997/2000 or a clash with something else we all have installed perhaps Access needs a service pack or something :confused: will have to get a reinstall i think...
