    Venn Diagram in Access...?

These are pretty good, but I'm looking for something with accuracy. The circles need to be of a size which is relational to each other. If Area A is 50 and Area B is 25 then A needs to be 2x B. Then their 'overlap' needs to be relational too. So far I'm just using Access to get the values...

    Am I doing this right???

You are right. Thank you. I had to add the subquery to the LEFT JOIN section. Man, that took a bit of figuring out :) All in all, this is working. Thank you to everyone who helped. (I clicked on the scales next to your names.) SELECT DISTINCT [Invoice Data].[EndUser OCN:] FROM [Invoice...

    Am I doing this right???

I thought I had a grasp of what was happening in the subquery, but I can't seem to get this to work. When I run the query, it doesn't return any errors but instead it just runs forever. I let it run for about 5 minutes before I closed it. Traditionally, the two separate queries and the third...

    Am I doing this right???

Got it. Thanks! Logically, could I change the 'min' to a 'count'? It looks like it would make a table with their IDs and the count of purchases in that time frame. I would then look for counts greater than 1. I'm starting to get a small understanding of your query so I thought I'd try it a...

    Am I doing this right???

Dallr, What is 'O' in your select statement: (SELECT min(O.DatePurchased) FROM [Orders] O WHERE O.CustomerID = Orders.CustomerID AND O.OrdID > Orders.OrdID... Is that the temp holder referencing back to the main query? That is the part that loses me in the text I've...

    My first subquery......Help???

It was never my intention to double-post. The first thread started as a simple question about the accuracy of my query and evolved into a discussion about it's efficiency. Also, this thread was posted before your very helpful reply about subqueries. Since the first thread has changed from...

    Am I doing this right???

This is exactly what I was needing to get done. In fact, I just posted that exact question here: http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=169897 I'm getting errors on the query and couldn't figure out how to fix it. I'll take a look at your query and sample database to try...

    My first subquery......Help???

I'm trying to save some time and effort by combining some frequent queries into one. Basically, I need to see the customers which have purchased in FYxx and have not purchased in FYxx+1 AND FYxx+2. To do this I need to create 4 queries: [FY06 TCC] gives me the customers from FYxx SELECT [Main...

    Am I doing this right???

Are there duplicates in a UNION query? I just ran this, and it doesn't look like there are any dups. What happens if there are customer hits in both parts of the UNION? Does the UNION remove the duplicate? Also, what if I wanted to show what FY year they came from? I would have never...

    Venn Diagram in Access...?

I'm sorry but I don't see any screenshots. I think that's what you were referring to. I followed the link bust couldn't find a project which looked like a Venn project.

    Am I doing this right???

This is correct, however there is more which I haven't shared. I wasn't being secretive, I just thought it would cause the thread to go off topic. I run this query for each year for the two following years. For example, I have a query for each year which lists the customers which have bought...

    Am I doing this right???

So, to be clear, my first example works (ignore the HAVING, it should read WHERE). It does compare against both 2007 and 2008 and only returns the records which do not exist in either year. Correct?

    Am I doing this right???

But which one returns the correct answer? I never thought there could be two different answers and they both could be correct. In this case, is that possible? In my head I am thinking there is a definite number of customers who made a purchase in 2006 and DID NOT in 2007 nor in 2008.

How do YOU validate your results?

Brian, that sounds like a great idea. How would this work: Take the amount of permutations of the data (some fields can have multiple values IE License v Maintenance, New v Renewal, etc) and have a record specifically for each. Customer1-----New--------License-------$100...

    Am I doing this right???

I counted it as a typo. My original query contained the WHERE clause. I was doing some experimenting on the query and forgot to change it back when I posted. The question still stands though. Is the query, as posted with the WHERE clause, returning the proper results? I want to make sure it...

    Am I doing this right???

    Jeez! That's a typo. It should read WHERE. Sorry! SELECT [FY06 NCC].[EndUser OCN:] FROM ([FY06 NCC] LEFT JOIN [FY07 TCC] ON [FY06 NCC].[EndUser OCN:] = [FY07 TCC].[EndUser OCN:]) LEFT JOIN [FY08 TCC] ON [FY06 NCC].[EndUser OCN:] = [FY08 TCC].[EndUser OCN:] WHERE ((([FY07 TCC].[EndUser OCN:])...

How do YOU validate your results?

Some of my queries return results with tens of thousands of records.....sometimes hundreds. I think the query was built correctly. The query makes logical sense to me, but keep in mind how inexperienced I am with Access. What is the best way to validate the results of a query? How do you...

    Am I doing this right???

I am curious on whether I am doing this rather simple query correctly. I need to find out how many customers have NOT made any purchases since a specific year. Sounds simple, right? Queries 1&2 are simply a list of EndUser OCN's based on FY (Fiscal Year 07 and 08) InvoiceData. SELECT [Main...

    Venn Diagram in Access...?

I've been searching on different forums as well as google in general and I can't find any realistic way to make a Venn Diagram. All of the plugins/wizards/ideas make simple overlapping circles. What I'm doing now is creating an circle in Excel base using the value for what I'm needing as the...

    Why use relationships?

You guys had me at "Don't worry about them for your type of data. Use Joins." Now I'm lost :)
