Form Queries vs Unassigned Objects in navigator

Thank you The_Doc_Man, that totally makes sense. I'm glad there is no issue with leaving it where it is although I will see if she wants to assign it to a group as suggested by TheDBguy, zeroaccess and Micron. It would make sense to use the query for a report... another area I have no...

Form Queries vs Unassigned Objects in navigator

Hi, I was asked to help someone create a view in an Access Database. The person who was responsible for the database has left the company and so the department is scrambling to make some small changes. They heard I have recently been learning about Access so they asked me for help. Rather than...

    Replacing contents of table

Thank you Cindy, that's very interesting. I use named ranges in Excel often but I didn't know that Access had any visibility to them. Would the tab name still have to be named the same as the Table name? Or does the import wizard present the ranges for input and then prompt for the table name? Gale

    Which Form event?

Thank you Pat, I understand what you are saying and I appreciate the comment. I can see I will need to do more reading before using form events, they are a little confusing. In regard to your use of the Default value in the table, I realized that earlier today but I am so inexperienced with...

    Skip buttons in Tab order

Thank you theDBguy, this is very useful information. You and Mick have made a wonderful end to my day... well in another hour it will be the end of my work day... in case someone is watching LOL I am so impressed with the level of support on this site! It's simply wonderful! :) Gale

    Skip buttons in Tab order

Thank you Mick... that's exactly what I needed. Already applied and tested :) Gale

    Skip buttons in Tab order

Is there a way to skip buttons on a form when using the Tab key? It would make tabbing from field to field a little smoother... in my opinion. Gale

    Which Form event?

Thank you pbaldy, I'll look into the insert events for future needs... "If Me.NewRecord Then " that little addition to your post really makes it useful to me... just what I needed :-)

    Which Form event?

Thank you MajP and the DBguy... I was hoping there was an event that knew when a New document was being created. I think if I used the AfterUpdate event I would have to determine if a new document had been created verses an update on an existing document and that's pretty complicated to me. But...

    Which Form event?

I am using a single form to add, edit and view records. When I add a new record I would like to populate the "CreatedOn" form field with the current date. I think I can use a Form event for this but I can't figure out which one. Or is there a better way of doing this? Gale

    Replacing contents of table

Thank you theDBguy, and I totally agree. In this experiment all of my data grooming is done in Excel prior to importing into Access. I have done some direct table data changes but I will avoid that in the future since all of the data is correct and up-to-date now. Future edits and additions will...

    Replacing contents of table

That's exactly the problem. I created three tables from portions of my original Excel data that I "groomed" using different delete key and right -click>>Delete combinations on the data to remove columns and rows. The Right-click>>delete method worked perfectly every time, but the Del key deleted...

    Replacing contents of table

By habit I use the right click drop down menu... but I almost live in excel so a lot of what I do is muscle memory and I really don't think when I do it... not do I totally remember :-) I'll experiment and let you know what I find. I learned another thing about Access in this exercize... when...

    Replacing contents of table

Thank you both very much. I will avoid deleting records and use the method theDBguy described. It works perfectly although without someone telling me about it I would never have figured it out. The option title to "Import into a NEW table" is a little confusing in this case. But no problem... I...

    Replacing contents of table

I exported the data from Lotus Notes into a text file. I then imported it into Excel and spent two days cleaning it up :-) So now I have the data in very good shape in an excel workbook.

    Replacing contents of table

@The_Doc_Man & theDBguy This is my first Access DB and I am creating it to replace a Lotus Notes application that has been in use for over ten years. Now I am preparing the Access DB for release and I want to load the Documents table with current records. I don't want to update the records I...

Thank you Eberhard, I am going to try theDBguy's suggestion... maybe it isn't as complicated as I thought it might be :-) Gale

    Replacing contents of table

Thank you theDBguy, I didn't think it would overwrite existing data but that would make it easy. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes :) Gale

    Replacing contents of table

Hi, How do I replace the contents of a table? I was planning to delete the existing records and then import new data but I am not sure that is the proper way to do it. The table doesn't have any relationships to other tables if that matters. Gale

Does saving a Form also save associated VBA?

Yes, that is exactly what I see. But I am in the habit of opening the form in design view first and then I open the VB editor. So seeing the form in design view is exactly what I expect. But I think you are saying the form will automatically open in design view if I edit the associated VBA...
