The design/development process - Your techniques?

I've lost track of the amount of times I've gone to help a user out who has a problem with his "database"... only to find out what they actually mean an excel spreadsheet!

The design/development process - Your techniques?

I noticed that one too, but I didn't really want to say anything. Being a relative newbie on here I didn't want to upset Pat, as she has been really helpful in past threads for me. :) Not knowing people's sense of humour causes me hold back a little on things I'd normally say. :) ...Well...

The design/development process - Your techniques?

Thanks for everyone's replies so far. Especially Pat, you nailed exaclty the kind of thing which I wantedt o find out about. I've developed a couple of DB's in the past. But I've put them together in a higeldy-pigeldy kind of way. Sot this was the area (which many of you veterans probably...

If you just right-click on the text box and from that menu choose "Build Event". then from the 3 options which appear, choose "Code Builder".

The design/development process - Your techniques?

Elaborating slightly on what you've said. I understand the development lifecycle. When you come to the actual "doing" bit in Access. It's the Access part which really interests me at the moment. Obviously you start with (once normalised): [list=1] Table names & Field names Field Types...

The design/development process - Your techniques?

Thank you for your reply Len. :) As I'm still learning the processes involved it really helps to hear how other people go about it. I'm just disappointed that not many people replied to this thread. :( I thought it would something of interest to most people, not just myself... maybe I am more...

options for initial design of table

Maybe a ListBox which takes it's values from tblArtforms would seem to fit the bill?

    Table Structure

Just anothr quick question. On the elationship diagram it created a TblStaff_1 (as well as the original TblStaff). I assume this would be just for the purpose of the diagram, and it wouldn't have to actually work like this? I assume it is because I've used the same field as a foriegn key twice...

The design/development process - Your techniques?

Hopefully this might spark some interesting conversation and comparisons, but I am personally interested too… I can’t say that I’ve designed enough yet to have a technique which I follow. I know to establish the requirements etc, I have studied Systems Analysis. But once you’ve collected your...

    Table Structure

Thanks a lot for your time and your reply Pat. 1. Special Charachters - Oops, if you mean the few where there are brackets, they were comments/remarks for my reference and I didn't mean to include them as field names. And they won't be included. However, the "/" I will remove, I didn't...

    Table Structure

Hi, I was hoping for some advice as to if there were any glaring errors in my normalisation. NOTE: Can I just say (as I've seen this happen)... I hope nobody gets on their high horse about me asking this. I'm not taking the pi$$ and getting you guys to design it, I've come this far, and just...

Any good example example databases - around "membership"

I was looking for any example databases which I could take a look at. I'm after one that deals with memberships and payments of fees. Like a sports club membership kind of thing, preferably something which deals with applications for entry to said club and subsequent refusal/acceptance, and...

Next field appears depending on answer to previous field

Ok, I know what I'm trying to find, but don't know the actual term for it to search effectively! I'm looking for some threads/information/examples on how to... Make a field appear visible or not on a form, depending on the entry of the field prior to it. Like an elaboration if the answer is...

    Expiry Date

Expiry Date - Do I calculate or have a field? What is the best practice when it comes to expiry dates? Do you have an ExpiryDate field or just an unbound calculated (from the IssueDate ) textbox on a form? The ExpiryDate is used in a few queries, but I could change these to do the additional...

Linking Word Templates & Access (Both XP)

I guess this is similar to a mail merge, but I want it all controlled from Access. I want it to take information from Access and put it into the appropriate template (selected by user from a combo or series of buttons). I was thinking of having a series of buttons at the bottom of a form, or...
