    Delete records on form close

Dear Experts, I became intrigued with a function which Pat Hartman posted in her "BoundDenormalizedForm" zip some time ago, and I worked on this variation. I am trying to mimic the look and feel of a series of checkboxes. By virtue of Pat Hartman's query magic each check box creates a...

    Yes/No ....... NO!!!!

Doc, I personally don't think you wrote anything harsh or ungentlemanly... just fervent, interesting and, as always, intelligent. I often come to this forum to search for a specific issue, and end up reading and learning about some completely unrelated topic just because I see you've posted in...

Ladies - Need your help please? Guys dont laugh at me! lol

Overheard today... Working on a PC in a cubicle. Over the wall floats this conversation: Woman 1: When did you get that ring? Woman 2: Last week. My husband gave it to me. Woman 3: Wow, that is some diamond. Was it your anniversary? Woman 2. No. Woman 1: Your birthday...

    $48 thousand vs. $67 million

A programmer who showed me some basics of MS Access told me, "A programmer can make the user interface easy to for himself ( herself! ) to build, or easy for the worker to use. You can't do both." AND "In order to make the system 5 percent more user-friendly, the programmer has to do 50 percent...

    $48 thousand vs. $67 million

   Near the project's beginning I thought about trying to get hired by D. & T. so I could help, but they would have fired me the first time I argued that the front-line social workers were the REAL customers, not the State (mis-) management team. Our own State team refused to...

    $48 thousand vs. $67 million

..Or: "What Access Can Do That Powerbuilder Can't"... Six years ago I picked up one of those 1500 page MS Access tomes, found Pat Hartman, The Doc Man, and many others here on this forum, then sat down for two weeks and laid down the foundation of a database ( "GINGER" ) that has been used by...

trying to speed up access database

After you split the databases create the code tables in the FE. Here's another idea that may help ( it is not original with me; I got it from another helpful person here in the Forum :) ): When I first split my database FE / BE I spent a lot of time copying FE shells down to each user's...

How to create a message box indicating record is locked?

You may be trying to work around a problem that can be fixed cleanly, rather than telling your users to wait. If I may suggest, read this thread "Trouble opening database for multiple users." Best of luck, and I'd like to know how you resolved / resolve this.... Smilin' Sean

    Disable mouse wheel

FYI: I did a search for "disable mouse wheel" and came up with 3 pages of postings. I've often found needed information faster by searching than by waiting / hoping that someone responds to my post. Good luck with your problem - :)

Best way to produce unique records

..no expert - except at trial and error This is advice from a novice; my hope is that my reply will generate some thinking on your part and a more useful post from another forum member. My first thought is that you need to focus on the 'latest date' field by creating a query that pulls that...

Best way to produce unique records

Final goal? When you get the dataset you want from the query, what do you wnat to do with it? Print it, edit data? Sean

trying to speed up access database

If you haven't already tried this, it may help. In my databases I have code tables with lookup values like:Male, Female, Married, Single, etc. that users need to add to client records through comboboxes. I keep those code tables in the FE for fast response with comboboxes. Hope that helps - Sean

    Many-to-many structure correct?

The sky brightens after the storm...wonderful solution, Pat. To anyone else following this: By assigning a variety of 'faux' field names in separate queries to the same field in the table, Pat's subform design makes it appear that each datasheet column is a different field in the same record...

    Many-to-many structure correct?

A few years back I was visiting my 84-year-old mother at her home just outside Washington, DC, when a front came through and kicked up a tornado – very rare in that area. I’d never experienced one but knew some of the signs. I took Mom to the basement. She kept asking why we couldn’t stand near...

    Many-to-many structure correct?

Dear Pat, Yes, session = semester; which I don't think was clear in my thread-starter; that probably misled FoFa. I tried the suggested changes, but kept coming back to my posted structure. One of my frustrations was this: each session/semester ALWAYS consists of 9 classes, so I kept wondering...

    Many-to-many structure correct?

No, FoFa, I think you understand it better than I do. After spending a few minutes I see the logic of your structure and I'm going to try it your way. Thank you for taking the time to lay it out for me. I'll let you know how it goes. Gratefully - Sean

    Many-to-many structure correct?

More likely I'm not communicating the issue clearly; I've fried my brain staring at the table structure. Thank you for your suggestion; I need to study the implications of your query. I'm not that facile with 'inner joins'. Thanks - Sean

    Many-to-many structure correct?

Thank you for the response. Wouldn't your suggested changes make it harder to calculate which classes a student attended? What I can't seem to confidently visualize is the way to track class attendance dates for students that attend classes in more than one session. I appreciate you taking the...

    Many-to-many structure correct?

I’m struggling to fix a database for my state agency. Here’s what the social workers need: The agency holds several Foster Parent training sessions a year. Each session consists of 9 classes. We need to track ‘student’ attendance at each class. We also need to track class dates for each...
