    For me the root of the issue is about competence, availability and location provider compensation and social issues are farther down the list. Unless I'm missing something.

    I retired at 63 because the actuarial charts provided by the school district showed that no additional benefits accrued after that age (other than salary). Another reason was that the district kept me on their insurance until I turned 65, which I thought was a great deal.
