    Solved WinZip SelfExtractor Ignoring Arguments

Hah, I was so focused on the string that I never even thought about that. It did the trick - thanks!

    Solved WinZip SelfExtractor Ignoring Arguments

Hey folks, long time no see. The company has me working primarily in C# these days, but today I'm fighting Access again. The situation is that we have an application that takes a WinZip self-extracting archive, executes the archive in silent mode, and provides an export location. This has...

Add "Progress Meter" to a working VBA routine

Interesting - that doesn't look like my code, but MeterWithForms_v1.02.mdb was very much the last version of mine I posted to the Code Library! It looks like I conflated MajP's attachment with his link to your site. Well, I should definitely update the version in the code library at some...

Add "Progress Meter" to a working VBA routine

You know, I really should get around to updating that thing to .accdb files one of these days.

Mythbusters - SELECT DISTINCT vs GROUP BY

Thanks. And yeah, good performance is always rewarded with more, harder tasks. And yeah, there was definitely more cash involved.

Mythbusters - SELECT DISTINCT vs GROUP BY

Thanks, guys. Colin, I went ahead and signed up and added the link in a reply to his comment. EDIT: So just as an FYI, my tests were run in SQL Server, which means that that's the performance you can expect from a passthrough query. I'll see if I can't get some free time to run tests in...

Mythbusters - SELECT DISTINCT vs GROUP BY

ROFL If you only knew how busy I've been lately, and how little of it has been working with Access. Got promoted a couple times, and my workload is WAAAY heavier now than it used to be.

Mythbusters - SELECT DISTINCT vs GROUP BY

Well, for what it's worth, on SQL Server, both queries almost always take the same amount of time and have the same outputs. This is because when SQL Server creates an execution plan, it converts SELECT DISTINCT into an aggregate query. I'm currently using the following subquery in something...

    Should trolling be illegal?

As to when trolling should become illegal, IMO it would have to be based on when the trolling segues into active, provable harm. And MAN is that a dangerous area to begin treading.

    Should trolling be illegal?

More an included crime. You need the same info either way. Doxxing just publishes the info. Swatting uses it to bring the cops in shooting, but people have been swatted without being doxxed when the person doing the swatting was also the person who found the address.

    Is Socialism theft?

Oligarchies rarely advertise themselves as such.

    Should trolling be illegal?

Basically: Doxxing Hey internet! Here's Jon's address, phone number, employer, children's names and school, and what he drives. Have fun! Swatting "9-1-1, please state your emergency" "Jon is at <your home address> and he's going nuts! He's already killed two people and is screaming he's...

    Should trolling be illegal?

I don't see it as such. It's much more 'here's their info; I really hope no one does anything bad with it' vs swatting being a straight-up attempt to get cops to kill the person. Basically, doxxing is passive and takes a long time to do anything, while swatting is active and immediate...

    Is Socialism theft?

Nope, I studied Computer Science, Philosophy, and Female Anatomy in college, and not always in that order. I do, however, read CONSTANTLY, and since 2000 or so I've read a ton of political theory. China is a strange bird. It calls itself a Communist nation (which isn't QUITE the same as...

    Should trolling be illegal?

Here's a thread for you, Jon: "If there is no free will, then are prisons and punishment wrong?"
  16. Frothingslosh

    Should trolling be illegal?

IMO, trolling should only be illegal if it involves other crimes. Deliberately pissing someone off because you found a hot button you can push is rude and asinine, but it is also free speech. However, taken to extremes, you wind up with things like SWATTING, which absolutely 100% should be...

    Is Socialism theft?

LOL It probably has more to do with my support of social programs. Anyway, we're way off-topic. In regards to the topic of whether or not socialism is theft, it is not and cannot be theft, as it is either a political or economic theory. Theft would be a specific implementation, and...

    Is Socialism theft?

Amusingly, over at Conservapedia, when they got to this part in their Bible rewrite, they suggested replacing 'right' with 'Conservative' and 'left' with 'Liberal'.

    Is Socialism theft?

Matthew 25: 31-46 The Sheep and the Goats 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the...
