Hi,

I want format some cells based on the contents of another cell. For Example if A1 is True then I want cells A2:A10 to be coloured orange. I can't seem to work it out using the standard Conditional Formatting option - is it me?!

Cheers

You need to understand relative and absolute references for this to work. I'll try to give you an example based on your information.

With A1 as the Active Cell, and Cells A1 to A10 Selected, choose Conditional Formating from the Format menu:
  • Change Cell Value Is to Formula Is
  • Enter your criteria test in the formula window, like this =A$1="Your Value Goes Here"
This will cause all of the cells in the selected range to be formatted based on the value in A1 and whether it satisfies the criteria or not. Using this method, it's possible to, for instance, make Subtotals stand out more in a list of data.

Although you will want to select A2:A10 based on OP requirements. ;)
