I wasn’t sure where to put this so I just put it under general, so if I need straighten out let me know. I just finished a db for a prison ministry, and I have a person with a similar ministry that wants a db of the same thing. My problem they have a Mac. What are my options?

I think that one option would be FileMaker Pro. Can't give you any more details, however, but I do know of some folks with MacBooks using it.

Edit: Just ran a query in Google "Running access on a MAC"

Lots of hits in the MAC forums.

Thanks, I will look into it. Any other options from anybody are also welcomed.

One of my clients is using Bootcamp on their Mac with my Access application and it works beautifully.

Pat Thanks! Does VM tool and BootCamp that shadow metion do the same thing, or will my client have to get both?

They are totally different. Bootcamp allows you to boot into either Windows or OSX. An Intel Mac is required. You'll also need a Windows license for the Mac.

Parallels or VMWare Fusion allow you to run Windows as a virtual machine INSIDE OF OSX. Again, you need an Intel Mac and a license for Windows.

The VM is more convenient but may run more slowly than actually booting to Windows.

Bootcamp is free, as it is provided as part of OSX. Parallels and Fusion are paid apps.

You can get away with just running Bootcamp, but you have to reboot to get back into OSX. With Fusion and Parallels, you simply run the Windows VM from OSX. In any case, you don't need both, although I think that if you do a Bootcamp installation, the Windows you installed can be run within the VM as well, giving the user the option to do it either way.

VirtualBox, for now, is a free alternative to these paid VM products.

If I was the mac user I think I would be able to make and learn the switch but my client (which I don't get paid from any of them) would not be computer learned enough to navigate the requirements, so I will just pass on the information and let them go from there. Thanks everyone for all the help. Actually if I was the Mac user I would just get a PC. <G>

No you would not... come back to Viruses and Spyware and and and....?!?!?!? ;)

While not Access, Lazarus is a cross-platform Delphi-like tool which is able to deploy projects to Lin/Mac/Win. http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/ I am seriously thinking to do my next major project with that tool.

Notice I put a <G>, as I know there are big MAC's out there. Personally, intellectual I know the advantages of mac, but being physical lazy I stay with PC.
