What I am trying to do is put a subform within a subform. The trouble is I want both forms to be continuous forms.

when I put the subform within a subform, access comes up with the following message:

**********************************************************************
A form with a subform object cannot have its DefaultView set to Continuous forms.

You tried to add a subform to a form in design view.
MSAcess will reset the property to Single Form.
***********************************************************************

which it does my higher level form becomes a form only showing single records at a time whilst the subform is a continuous form.

does anyone know of a way around this?

what about Access2003 does it allow this?

help much appreciated.

What is it that you are trying to view in this manor, is it something like SalesOrder info with SalesOrderDetails info?

Will these Controls need to updateble, or are they just for viewing.

There may be a better way.

Three crow, just a brief overview what I'm aiming at.

I have a Job that is broken down into tasks.

Job on the main form task on a subform.

The general details of the task are on the subform.

click a button on the Job main form and a task sheet main form appear, with a subform which breaks down the elements of the task.

Within the elements subform I wish to place another form in a record outlining the skills, knowledge and attitudes required for the task.

there can be a range of 1 to 20 of these, varying.

Thanks Pat for the confirmation, I checked out the linked threads and its as you said access does not support continuous forms on continuous forms.

I'll have a look at your sub datasheets. Thanks

That's not actually strictly true, it can be done but the problem relates to display control

"That's not actually strictly true", this statement raised a smile seemed like a 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other answer.

Anyway thanks for your reply, having read your posts throughout this forum you seem a very helpful and knowledgable person. If you'd like to share your train of thought it would be appreciated.

Is the db just for your use? I wouldn't recommend it at all in a multi-user environment

The db will be chiefly for my use, but other individuals may wish to use it from time to time.

There will be only one user at a time accessing it.

I think I see what you are suggesting in terms of a multi-user enviroment and integretity of continuous forms in continuous forms.

You've got me hooked now I'm intrigued just to see what happens in a multi-user environment.

The problem's whether they realise what the current record on the main form is without having to click a button that's tied to the current record ;)
