How do I make an accdr file out of an accde file?

Thank you.

I turned on the option to view the file extensions and changed it there. However, when I opened the file it was blank.

Any help out there for that?

That is how I designed It. So, do I just change the file extension to .accdr?

Thank you.

I think you need to set a start up form, so that when run time verison open, user have direct access to that form. This form can be set in Access Options>Current Database. The form should have necessary buttons to open the designed forms.

I don't see much point in .accdr because any savvy user could just change the filetype anyway and gain access to forms etc even if it is .accde. Even if the runtime was forced, it can still be circumvented!!

Before converting to ACCDE, if "Show Navigation Pane" is turned off in Access Optiosn>Current DataBase and start up form is set, then in that case, still after changing file extension to ACCDE, user can still see Start up form.

Nigel, That's true but think how many people still don't know about holding the shift key to bypass the AutoExex/Open Form. In any event, I use it because it is better behaved than an .accde. Doing certing actions such as importing or exporting a spreadsheet will cause the navigation pane to appear even though it is supposed to be hidden and no code that I have come up with or found with a web search can shut it back down again. This doesn't happen with an .accdr since it never shows the nav pane under any circumstances.

Hi Pat,

i went to great lengths to try and prevent any type of access like shift right click etc. I added in a fail safe in one of older apps that did this-

On open, check for unique names txt file. If not there, shift bypass is not activated. If it is there, Shift bypass is deactivated.

On Open, check for the access instance. If not runtime, close applciation. If runtime, continue.

The 'check for runtime' actually works great however, it 'can' be circumvented if the properties were to be changed with an external db specifically set up to do that. To combat that, i password protected the db so in order to chage the properties, you would need a database password. Even then, there is still a method of accessing a database even with a password by using certain software ( i wont mention what but its a very simple method )

Cheers

What I basically liked very much about accdr is that you do not need full version access on user PCs. Just run it! (I may not be knowing all pros and cons being a beginner).
