Hi All,

Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).

Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.

I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.

Older versions of MS Access cannot open MDE files created in newer versions.

Did you have the 2003 removed? I always keep the old version of Access for development purposes. If so, can you have it reinstalled?

My PC died and the dept Tech Specialist gave me a new one with Access 2007. I've discussed with him the issue I'm having with the .mde file. For the time being, I'm developing on my laptop which has Access 2003.

To reiterate -- whatever I develop in a split Access 2007 database (with .mde) cannot be opened in Access 2003? Even if I save the 2007 as Access 2003? Is there any work around for this?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

No – the MDE HAS to be created from Access 2003.

I have found that if you do all your development work in 2007, but save as a MDB file, and CREATE YOUR MDE FILE on a computer runing 2003, you will be fine!

MS A2003 can open the MDB version fine, but not the MDE file created in A2007.

HTH

Steve
