Dear Bill Gates

I'd just like to invite some comments and commiseration from anybody else out there who is struggling with Access 2010 in regards to compatibility with 2007 and earlier.

According to this link a form with 'Empty Cell Control' will cause a database not to open

I am experiencing this: I am gradually importing items from the database that won't open into one with all the queries and tables already successfully imported. I have tested and so far so good, the database will open.

I import a particular form, and get 'unrecognised format' error.

I then spend half an hour or so removing individual items from the form (I have already checked carefully for empty cells) and importing the form, uploading it via vpn to the office where they only have Access 2007 installed and open it using Remote Web Workplace. In desperation I delete the whole form and the database still won't open!. I'm now faced with a snail pace methodology to fixing the database:- rebuild the form from scratch over VPN or try pot luck making a few changes, uploading and testing again.

I am going to be forced to uninstall the Access 2010 I paid for and install my customer's vesion of Access (in contravention of the licence? - I only have their product key to hand!), or even more long windedly set up a virtual machine with access 2007 on it.

I will post the form in the forms forum and if anybody feels so inclined they can have a go at getting it to open in Access 2007...

which way are you going?

developing on A2010 and expecting it to be downward compatible?

I would have thought the only safe way is the other way - develop in A2007, and then I am sure there would be no problems

I think it might work if I import items into an A2000 - 2003 mbd. Thanks for the tip though.
At least I can get an mdb to open with the be-devilled form in it.

The whole adventure started with me customising an A2010 template. Probably would have been quicker to rewrite an old Northwind mdb!

Cheers for the encouragement.
