Access 2010 and Open Office

Good Morning,

I have been asked the question 'is it possible to import the structure of an Access 2010 database incorporating multiple Tables, Forms & Queries into Open Office. If it is possible what degree of functionality would survive.'

I have no experience of Open Office but I am sure that one of the AWF experts will have a view on the matter.

Any comments would be gratefully received.

I haven't used open office, but I have used different database systems. If you consider the data --that is the tables involved, you can/could export the data to flat files. Using import or load utilities of the "other" dbms, you can/could populate tables. The dbms itself will have facilities to create indexes and keys.

However, if you are thinking in terms of forms, reports, queries, macros and modules, then little would be directly usable-- there would be a coding/programming review needed. There may be some utilities to move vba to XXX etc. The most common component is most likely the use of SQL (and each often has its own idiosyncrasies.)

Open office may have tools to facilitate building forms/reports etc, but I have no experience with it so can not comment on same.

Many thanks for the extremely rapid response to my query.

My query arose from a question posed by an 'Open Office' user who is keen to take advantage of a fairly complex membership database I have built in Acces 2010.
I have gained the impression from your comments and others, that although one could convert and import Table data into open office, the forms, queries, reports and macros would need to be recreated. In view of the fact that the Table data is unique to the individual user, the proposal seems utterly pointless.
