I have a database that is business critical. Over the past couple of months the database has regularly been reaching is maximum capacity of just over 1gb in size. I know really I should be looking at moving the database to SQL server but cost and budgetry restrictions mean I have limited resources.
I was wondering what would be the implications of me converting the database to Access 2000? What do I need to be aware of when converting? And what aspects of the database may change during the convert process? Thanks

purely out of curiousity 1gig? did you compact and repair the db and its still that size? How many users do you have connected? You will not see a great improvement in A2k as far as size of the db if you just have that many records and the cost of upgrading several users will more then pay for the sql server upgrade your avoiding. However, you will have to upgrade your Office sooner or later anyways so you probably will not be able to excape the price of the upgrades.

I have seen db's over 1gig in size though a simple compact and repair brings them down to under a hundred megs or so. please provide specifics on your database how many records and what not. I have seen 100k record databases that didnt reach that size. P

think about splitting the db into 1 front end and maybe several backends...
