I have had to replace one of my PCs running Win XP with a new one running Vista Home Premium.

I can connect to files without problem on the Vista machine from my laptop running XP. When I try from my other PC also running XP it will map the drive but then gives "Access Denied" when I try to read from the drive.

The Vista machine can access drives on both the XP machines and the XP machines can access files on each other.

I am still new to Vista so what settings should I look at?

I turned firewalls off for a quick test but I still got the "Access is denied" message.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Quite few thing have changed in Vista regarding networking it's probably related to file permisions try this first:

Right click on the folder > properties > security > advanced and change ownership to your account (or add it in) more info here

Hi

Sorry about the delay in replying. I managed a workaround by moving the files into the Public folder in Vista. I am still puzzled why two computers set up identically should give different results when accessing a drive.
