I run Access 2007 on my Windows 7 laptop. Yesterday, I got new security updates from Microsoft. And now the hyperlinks in my database don't work any more. If I click on them, the following message pops-up: "Opening ...path... Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important etc. blabla." I tried every possible solution (Access Security features, Registry), but I can't get rid off the message. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Renzo

Also be sure set the folder with the database as a trusted location in Access. Also add the folder to the Internet options Security tab for Intranet sites.

Hi Boyd aka HiTechCoach

Thanks for helping me! I did change the registry, and I set the folder with the database (where the hyperlinked pdf-files are also stored) as a trusted location. (As I mentioned, the database was running smoothly until last Thursday.) But it doesn't work. What do you mean with "add the folder to the Internet options Security tab for Intranet sites", though?

Thanks,

Renzo

Thanks again. I guess, I don't have an intranet network. And the system doesn't let me enter something like c:\\. It tells me: You have entered an invalid wildcard sequence. etc. pp. Any other idea? The Access pop-up is in English by the way, even though it runs in German. It also says Microsoft Office in its header. Is there a security folder for all the Office programs?

If you have a LAN then you have an intranet.

It would really help if you would attach a screen shot of the eror message. I use this for screen capture (cick here)

Here is the warning message. Did I mention that the same message shows, when I am using the database on my old Laptop (Windows XP)? Could it be that the recent security patch that Windows released last week and that I installed, has something to do with it? Thanks!

Since I do not normally use hyperlink to view files , I am trying to recreate this issue. I am thinking that this was due to a non-Access related update. Did you upgrade Internet Explorer (IE)? Did you upgrade Acrobat Reader?

I only use the a hyperlink or .FollowHyperlink method for web URLs.

I have found it best to NOT use a hyperlink to a file, especially a PDF. In testing with a PDF, I ran into many issues with the Acrobat Reader. This method so far has avoided the issues you are having.

Here is how I handle this:
Document Links or Document Links 2

I found the problem, and I am sorry that I wasted you time. Acrobat indeed updated itself, but I was still waiting for my okay to install the new version. Now my database works again. In the meantime I will study your tool, and maybe upgrade my database too. (It would be a lot of work, though.) Again, many thanks.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the update.

I don't think it was a complete waste of time. I do thikngk you learnd some things.

1) You now now new way of handling links to extrnal files.

2) You also have learend that if Acrobat Reader every updates you will need to be sure an launch it once manually.

My look on it: It is always a good day when you learn something new.
