Access inserts a "guessed" value in my datasheet

While in datasheet view, i enter a value in a text field, then
press the down arrow key. Access then places (on it's own
i might add), a value (from %$&$% thin air) which it must
believe i wanted to add.

The value seems to be a prediction of what should be
in the field, based on previous entries.

How do I stop such nonsense? Anybody.

It almost sounds like auto correct is on. Go to tool-->options-->General Tab and uncheck the autocorrect.

If that doesn't work, then hopefully some one else will pipe in.

There is no way to turn off this **feature** implemented by Microsoft. Yes, it is a royal pain in the butt. The best thing you can do is create a continuous form that looks just like a datasheet. Continuous forms do not exhibit this behavior.

Thank you! However, what is the autocorrect feature for that I told him to turn off. Can you please explain it to me so I will know for the future.

Thank you for your time in explaining it.

What is in your DEFAULT value and or input mask for the field on your form?

**feature notes**

I thought about the default field value, which can be set in
the table design view.

I changed the value from blank to "". This did not help.
(The field is one of type Text).

Microsoft Access needs a "Automatic Anything Off" checkbox!

Thanks for the replies.

Autocorrect when turned on lets Access take some guesses at what you *meant* to type into a field. It can be used like a spell checker or you can customize it to make typing long entries repeatedly much easier.

Based on the orginal poster's comments what he/she is seeing is happening in the same field for the *next* record which does not concern Autocorrect.

The **feature** I'm discussing is Microsoft's way of "helping" (I'm using that term very loosely there <g>) you with fast data entry in datasheet mode. So, for example, if you typed 1 in a certain field, went down to the *next* record, typed in a 2, went to the next record, Access will usually put a 3 there before you start typing. Access thinks it is helping you! Yeah....helping me...sure you are.

My response: "HAL, please turn yourself off now and stop helping me!"

This feature is like in Excel I believe. I find that this feature would rarely ever be used in an Access database. However, for those cases where it could be used, Microsoft should simply expose a property to toggle it on and off for us. Believe me we have voiced our concerns to the development teams a lot concerning this issue.

You're just going to have to trust me here, you cannot turn this *feature* off in Access. You'll need to set up your form or subform as a Continuous Form to avoid it.

Sorry.

Not saying this is it, but when i populated %$&$% into the input mask field, it magically populated that into the field on the form each new record.
