Access Losing Everything

Hi Guys,

I have an access database which a user was using when the power cut off. Since then the database works mostly fine, but every now and again (about twice a day) Access seems to forget how it works, and it loses everything. As in, all the tables, queries, forms, reports and macros vanish and it won't do anything.

If you close and then reopen the database again, everything comes back and works again. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to what is being done when it happens, and I've tried a compact and repair, which doesn't seem to have helped at all.

Has anyone got any experience with this happening, and know how to fix it? Or what might be the cause?

Oh, and before anyone says it, I've now persuaded management to let me order some UPS so it won't happen again!

yes, we all have experienced problems like this. The important thing is to minimise the disruption this causes

so, you need to split the database, so the data and application are separate. backup the data regularly as part of a standard backup procedure

never share a database application with multiple users. give each user their own copy

never use the master copy of your application - make sure that is available to restore a user's copy in the event of a problem such as this. take backups of each version of your app as you redesign it.
