"permission denied"

theres some trick to clearing this - but i cannot remeber how to get ti to split

i have compact/repaired etc

but to no avail

any pointers woud be most helpful

Gary:

Did you remember to compile before doing so to make sure that there are no code issues? Also, make sure all items are closed before doing anything. If you have any hidden forms, you'll need to close those too.

yep..
when i do the complie the progress bar doesn't seem to go the whole length stops about 1/2 way along and freezes - the d/base works ok . but i need to split it - it seems to have a fit on one tbl -

Make sure to compile and just be patient. It can take a while and it may be an error that is causing the split to fail. Either that or import everything into a new, blank mdb file and see if you can compile from there.

i'll give it a bash and leave it for a while - its late here UK time 10ish - so I'll let you know ...
thanks for the response

still didn't work - however found the answer

copy d/base (ensure you have a safe version (zip file etc)
now one make two copies of the d/base and one of these make the back end so empty out everything except the tables
the front end delete just the tables (or at least the ones you want linked)

complie compact repair etc both files
now open up your front end go to tables (there should be nothing there ..0 now right hand click on the mouse where the tables should be link and point it to the B/e

compact etc ...

now always ensure you have copies before you start - cos if it goes pear shaped yur in stum...

recommend you use one the auto back up systems as well - see the samples ont his -

hope this helps someone else who has this problem--

ta Bob for your response anyway -

Yes, that is the manual way you can go about it. It is completely okay to go about doing it that way, but I'm still a little concerned if you couldn't compile your db.

complies ok after this

the reason i want to split d/b at this stage is that i wanted to use a mail merge bol-ton option and it meant to work only on a split d/b-

(It dosen't --throws a real wobbly ) lost network connections.. ?? i think that just a fualt message that pops up anyway too late to think -
see you later
