Hi Forumers,

Has anyone ever had any luck converting a database into an Android app at all?

If yes, what program did you use and any restrictions on queries or the like?

~Matt

Alternatively, has anyone had any experience in converting a simple form to a webpage?

I have a very simple lookup query that shows a value between 2 times. I just want a webpage/app to be able to use this on my phone.

Near as I can tell, there is no software that will convert an Access app to anything. You can always convert a Jet/ACE database to something but that is not the same thing. Don't believe the websites that offer products that convert "Access to a web app. They convert the database and build generic forms corresponding to each table. Some of them even support a macro language that allows you to reproduce some, just some of your Access functionality.

Even MS when they were trying to find a way to webify Access never offered a conversion. Client/Server apps do not work the same way that web apps work. If you want to "convert" your Access app to run on Android, you have to do it form by form, one line of code at a time. And you have to give up on the features that the web does not support.

You can use Citrix and Remote Desktop to run your Access app in a webpage but you will need to either host the server yourself or find a third party. You would also have to create custom forms if you want to be able to actually see things on your phone since the existing ones will not scale.

I agree with everything Pat said, frankly I just really don't see that happening.

That looks like a useful product if you need something to run on an Android and don't need to reproduce the actual app. But it still doesn't do conversion of the Access app. Its pricing model is bizarre also. The product including 3 clients for $499 and the product including 5 clients for $950. so the second two clients cost $450 which seems excessive. It looks like the app was built by programmers familiar with Access.

OK, but what is the cost for each client? The whole point is that you need to buy a client for each Android device. I wasn't complaining about the initial cost of the product. It is certainly worth the price they are charging but if you have more than a couple of clients, it becomes expensive in a hurry.
