Can I install access 2000 on my machine that already has access xp installed?

I would like to be able to use both on my machine at home.... at work we use 2000.

Is there anything special I have to do or can I just go ahead and install 2k??

thanks for the help

Hi,

Haven't seen you in a while. I don't know about that combination
but I do know that in order to have A97 and A2000 run on the
same computer you had to jump through a lot of hoops defined
in a Knowledge Base article.

You'll have to install them in different locations, and maybe in a
specific order.

If I find any info, I'll post it here.

thanks,
an interesting thing though....
I am using office xp developers edition... When I fired up an access 2k db it loaded fine.. didn't even ask me to convert it.....hmmm question is: if I save it in xp will it open again in 2k..

I guess I will find out tommorow.

I was out of the loop for a while... downsized from my old job now I am in a new job at a smaller place with less budget for database developement... still get to do some though. Nice to know you remember me.

Thanks Wayne

ps,

What Access tends to do is record the last "executable" that
was used to open a db. Once you switch to another version
you are stuck with it until you:

Explicitly open a version of Access

Then when you open a db, it will write to the registry that
IT is the "real" version to use.

There are only a couple of issues with XP - 2000.

There is an option in the Tools - Options somewhere (cant remember exactly) of XP that sets whether new Db's are made in 2000 or XP so I feel it is not neccessary to have both installed on the same PC

2000 Db's made with XP cant be converted to an mde. You will have to take your Db to a PC with A2000 to convert it.

I have had a couple of issues with references. XP references are V10. I have noticed that sometimes when I created a Db with XP and then took it to a PC with 2000 it would sometimes - SOMETIMES come up with reference problems. (The calendar is one that springs to mind), although the V10 calendar is better because it has the events listed in the calendars property.

I left A-XP on my main PC and went back to A2000 on my laptop. So testing now is a bit more reliable.
