My company is getting ready to convert over to Access 2002 and although I am not responsible for the conversion it will affect a large number of databases I've designed and I was wondering what kind of compatibility/conversion issues that other have encountered between the two versions. Is 2002 backward compatible or do you have to convert the database never to be used in A2k again? Thanks for everyone's input.

My Two Cents:

Have recently undergone the same conversion with (dare I say it) - no problems at all.

Acc2002 can use (and develop) A2K databases without the need for conversion. When opening an A2K version, the database window simply displays Access 2000 file format.

The only issue we have discovered, is that you need to convert A2K file format to ACC2002 file format (wizard driven - no problems yet) before you can make an MDE file. To avoid this, our office still has an active (and licensed) A2K installation for converting A2K file format mdb's to mde's.

When producing (or operating) A2K file format mdb's, there are a few ACC2002 features that you are unable to use. However, if you need these features, the conversion process is relatively painless as mentioned.

Compared to the nightmare upgrade from ACC97 to A2K, A2K to ACC2002 is a walk in the park. Looks like the king of all kings may have actually learnt from an earlier mistake.

Brad.
