I have an Access application that I inherited and have to maintain. This application is on my desktop and a copy is on a collegues laptop (both of which run NT4 and Access 97). One of the reports opens a form which runs fine on my desktop but will not run on the laptop. I have discovered that this form contains an ActiveX control which is missing on the laptop. Opening the form in design view on my desktop and viewing the properties of this control shows the class to be MSComDlg.CommonDialog.1. I eventualy managed to find this control on the laptop (in comdlg32.ocx I believe) but when I tried to insert the control on the required form on the laptop I got an error to the effect that I was not licensed to use this control. Can anybody suggest how on earth I can get round this? Thanks in advance

I don't know if your problem is like mine, but I am having some trouble with that one, too. In my case, it isn't a licensing problem, but I keep on getting told that the file is "missing" when in fact I can see the darned thing in the right directory. I know it is in the right directory because I put it there! And yes it is the comdlg32.ocx file.

BTW I am on NT4 and AC97, too.

You didn't mention it, didn't use any of several terms I would expect to have seen, and I don't want to make assumptions, so I have to ask this queston:

Have you gone into any of the modules and clicked on Tools>>References ?

You should see that the common dialogue file is "missing." Put the file in the right directory. Get into the references screen, uncheck the box for that file, and browse for it, then add it to the reference list. That might clear things up. Then again, given my recent problems with this file, it might not.

Yes I have done that. Makes no difference at all. I have also done Tools/ActiveX Controls and clicked Register and then searched for the comdlg32.ocx file. After clicking 'open' on the 'Add ActiveX Control' dialog box the thing does nothing at all. Then again I don't know what it is supposed to do! It certainly doesn't list anything in the drop down. I really don't know what else I can try. There must be someone out there with a simple solution to this (I hope)
