In the subform (which is the many side of a one-many relationship), I would like to be able to add new records.

I would like to have the client_id from the parent table (which is open in the main form), auto-populate into the table that is opened with the subform.

At the moment, if no records yet exist in the child table, I get a blank datasheet and have no way to add a new record.

Even if records exist, I can't add any new ones and have the client_id automatically entered.

ANy suggestions?

Per the other post you had - it might help if you can post your database with a description of which forms and tables we should look at.

I have attached the zip file.

The Tables I am using:
Clients
Assistance Requested
Assistance Types

The Forms are:
Clients of Centro Hispano Main Page
Clients of Centro Hispano and their Skills
Client Requests for Assistance (i have also failed when trying Requests for help, Assistance Requested, Help Needed, Client REquests for Help...well, you get the point - I've tried a LOT of forms to get this to work!)

BTW - since I'm new to Access and just trying to help out a local non-profit...I use a LOT of wizards (don't scoff!)

First of all, you have so many variations on things that I can't tell what is supposed to be the one way you really want it. Do you want something as a subform or do you want to open another form for entering details? In most of the forms you are not really using subforms and then in one, you have a subform but it isn't clear why you do because all you have is a Save Changes and Go Back button (job skills label too) and all of that doesn't need to be a subform, but it can just be a form.

So, how about a better description (a sketch would probably be best) as to what, exactly, you are looking for the forms to look like. You might also delete all of the extraneous stuff and re-upload.

i guess there is a bit too much in there. I couldn't really figure out which way I wanted to go with it - and since nothing was working, I just kept adding more and more forms!

I'll see if I can clean it up a bit and reload.

I removed some of the extra forms. I'm really looking for a way to pull up the main page (Clients of Centro Hispano Main Page), and then from there, be able to look at/add/edit other things such as their skills and the requests for assistance that they have.

If I can get those two forms working correctly (with the auto-populating of the client_id), then I feel that I can then add more pages as necessary.

any suggestions you have to improve my methodology will be graciously accepted!

Thanks again for the help...

I am going in to volunteer tomorrow, and I would really like to have a better grasp of what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone help with this issue?

Thanks so much...
