Add record to form using Combo box

I have a combo box that lists available parts. I want to select a part from the combo box and added to the next record on the continuous form.
How do you reference the next record on a input form so the value is displayed?

Ensure that the combo box is on the 'detail' part of your continuous form and that it is bound to the field in your table.

I understand and am familiar with that method. However, I may have parts that may not be in the list and will need to be able to add parts to the list.

My idea is to select a part from the cbo box and the after_update will have code that will copy the details from the cbobox source to the next row in the continous form.
