I want to add the records from one field in tblA to tblB. Is there a simple way please? (I know it should be straight forward and simple. It must be me that's making it difficult, or perhaps because it's Monday morning. )

Good to hear from you, Mile-O-Phile. Each time I try with Append(I had thought the obvious choice), it begins to append from the last record in tblB!

Yep. Sorry.

(Are my eyes deceiving me, or have you changed gender? Perhaps the local Tourist Board is employing you to tempt visitors over the border. Divine is not an adjective I thought to use of your physique. Until now!)

The append query has one field which I want to put into the other table. I've given the receiving table the name of the field. Instead of slipping in among the records, it starts to append from the last of the existing records. (Field is text on both tables).

And why shouldn't it?

A table is an unordered collection of records - the position of a record shouldn't matter at all. If it's going in at the end I'd guess your table had an AutoNumber field.

If you need a sorted representation of a table then that's what queries are for.

Sorry, Master. It was me blighted by Monday-problems. I removed the autonumber - but in the wrong table. I can hardly believe it, but the evidence stares at me. Sorry, MoP. The disgrace is keenly felt - particularly when I gaze upon your new icon. Thanks for the guidance.

Nothing so drastic - I just changed my avatar prior to any psychoanalytic procedures that come as standard in such a process.

Are you a Shaolin Monk? :p

Thanks, Pat. I wanted one table to have the field plus the contents of that field.

I was doing it with an append query, but - not thinking clearly - I was trying to do it to a table that had an autonumber.

(Then realising the problem, I deleted the autonumber. To my shame, I deleted it from the wrong table. The append query mystified me by still refusing to work. After corresponding with the lovely (lovely new avatar, anyway) MoP, I discovered the mistake.)

Thanks for your advice, which I am copying and putting into my Good Advice notes, gratefully. Cheers
