Is that Module1 from the top? That sub should not even be in there and the 1st two line of the module should be:

Comment out that extire sub routine and post the next 10 lines of Module1 please.

Much better! Now while looking at this code go up to Debug>Compile and compile it and see if there are any errors. If not then go back to your form and press that button again. ;)

Dim OFN As tagOPENFILENAME ( Internal error)
This is what i get when i complie it.

OMG you are the mad RG. Wow........ Thanks for your great help. i assume that you are a database administrator. you helped me before and one more time. Thanks alot RG. Wow i wish i can give you something :).

one more question RG. when i click the button AddaFile it opens the folder and give me an option which file to choose and when i click final.doc it gives me a msg with the path of the file but dont give me an option to view that file or have the file name over there in the form. do i need to create some kind of text box and how can i view it?

You can put that filename in a textbox that is bound to a field in your table.

This is what i have done. i created a text box rite beside my AddaFile Button
I went In the Text box properties and where it says control Source i typed AddaFile
so that the control property is bound to that Button so then whenever i click on the button
it should attach a file in that textbox like you said eariler RG. it is still not attaching a file
always gives a msg that you have selected. can you try and see if it works for you or may be i am doing anything wrong
and yes one more thing when i click on the button it always have the file type Access.mdb and it shows me just mdb files but when i type a file name manually
like scripts.doc it will accept and it will give me the message i created msgbox that you have selected. but never will show the file. i am almost there
thanks for all your help RG .

If you look in the Function GetOpenFile() in Module1 you will see where the "Access.MDB" is being set. Change it to what you want for your particular situation. Here's the section you need to change:
Code:
' Define the filter string and allocate space in the "c"
' string Duplicate this line with changes as necessary for
' more file templates.
strFilter = ahtAddFilterItem(strFilter, _
"Access (*.mdb)", "*.MDB;*.MDA")
As for placing the filename in a control, now that we know the Module1 code is working you can change the click event of the button to:
Code:
Private Sub AddaFile_Click()

Me.YourTextBoxName = GetOpenFile(CurrentProject.Path, "Select Source File")

End Sub
Using your textbox name of course!

Thanks a bunch RG. Working perfect now. One problem which i encountered and have been debugging for like 2 hours.
i went into Tables and changed the data type for my field (AddaFile) and changed it to Hyperlink so then user
will be able to click on that link. The Textbox i have in my form rite besides my button it just paste the URL like
C:\Documents and Settings\suleman.zia\My Documents\Scripts\Script 3.doc
So i had to change the data type for my AddaFile button to Hyperlink. now here is the funny part. 3 or 4 of my records are working fine
meaning i can add a file in the form and can click on that Link so then the document will be open. but for some other records it is not working
when i click on the link it does not do anything. my functions are rite because if anything was wrong with my function i guess then the other records are also not suppose to work. any idea whats going on ?
and yes one more thing. is it possible to have the document
file in that text box rather than having the whole URL?. Because my
database is going to be connected on a server so then everyone can have access to it
just curious if they are going to be able to access that URL because everyone is going to attach a file
from their own computer.
Thanks for all your great help RG.

Hi Mike,
I think it is time to start a new thread so others will participate.

You are always very helpful. Thanks for all your help RG.

When a thread gets long, many pass it up. A shorter thread get everyone back in the picture again. I may still help but I wanted to get others involved as well.
