Hi Everyone,

I wonder if you can help, I have a very basic database as I am fairly new to this, I need to know if it is possible and how to Select a Compnay name and in another box the Full address, Tel No, Mobile No and Contact name comes up automatically.

Is this possible, if so could someone explain how to do this.

Thanking you in advance.

If you are selecting your company from a Combo Box, you can do the following.

Firstly create a query that selects the company name, and all other info you wish to show related to that company.

Use this query to populate your combo box. Now the first hidden column (column(0)) will probably hold the record ID, the next column (column(1)) the visible column will hold the Company name, subsequent columns (visible or not, your choice) will hold the additional info you wish to display related to the selection made in the combo box.

Now on your form you will need an unbound text box for each of the additional (related) pieces of info you wish to show, in each of these you will put;
Code:
=ComboName.Column([B]X[/B])
where X is the column number of the combo box that hold the piece of info you wish to display.

Thanks, could you tell me how to populate the Combo Box??

Sorry I am very new to all this.

When you set up the combo box, use the combo box wizard and follow the prompts. Instead of using a table as the row source, use the query that you have already set up. Continue to follow the bouncing ball from there.

I think I have populated the combo box now but am having trouble with the other bit, where do I put
Code:
=ComboName.Column([B]X[/B])

Thanks

Put it in the Control Source of the unbound text box, or alternately paste it straight into the text box on the form whilst it is design view.

I have done that but it is showing #NAME in the box, I tried to upload database but I think it is to big.

Any suggestions??

Hooray, it works now thanks so much.

One little thing, in the combo box when I click it it shows all fields, how do I do it so it only shows the Company Name Field?

Dont worry I have sorted that out as well, I really show try thing before asking lol.

Thnaks very much for your help.

Actually Sorry, I do still need you help, I have not managed to hide the other columns in the Combo Box, can you eplain how?

Thanks.

Set the column widths of the columns you don't want to be visible to 0cm, you find that in the Format tab of the properties box.

Thanks John, I also have one more problem, I have noticed that the information one record 2 is exactly the same as record 1 and so on, I need it so that each record is diffrent, you choose by selectinf the Company Name??

If i change record 2 it also chances record 1 and so on. and it also does not seem to be saving the information to the form, if I close and reopen the form is empty but it is on the correct ID No.

I need help!!

Is your Combo Bound or Unbound, I suspect the latter. If you bind it to the form's record Source (Table) the combo should dynamically change as you flick through your records.

Have a look at the attached sample, perhaps that will help
